poem: FAMILIARITY

The Agama lizard
Invited to
The living room
To feast on an infestation
Of ants, and mites
Does so, skirting around
Whilst wagging its tail
To the disdain
Of the housekeeper

A man granted
An inch
Grabs a mile
To the vexation
Of his benefactor

A child offered
A handshake
Reaches for the elbow
To the dismay
Of the senior

Likewise does Familiarity
The wayward child
Of Intimacy,
Begotten by Knowledge
Breeds the insolent son –
Contempt!
